Liangyou Rui⇑. + Author Affiliations. Chemical agents that uncouple oxidation from phosphorylation in the metabolic cycle so that ATP synthesis does not occur.
Included here are those IONOPHORES that disrupt electron transfer by short-circuiting the proton gradient across mitochondrial membranes. enzyme inhib. In a preferred embodiment the method comprises contacting an effective amount of an uncoupling agent which is a water-soluble biocide directly with the bacterial biomass in an aqueous system. The The method comprises adding to, or contacting with, the aqueous system an effective amount of an uncoupling agent which is a water-soluble biocide. In a preferred embodiment the method comprises contacting an effective amount of an uncoupling agent which is a water-soluble biocide directly with the bacterial biomass in an aqueous system. Uncoupling of oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) by nonsteroidal antiinflammatory drugs can occur via protonophoretic activity and other mechanisms. At physiological pH, many carboxylic acids (or sulfonamides) are present as anions; they are protonated in the mitochondrial intermembrane space and can permeate into the matrix, where they are deprotonated again due to the inside negative membrane potential.

This uncoupling is a hormonally controlled process 10 Feb 2015 In addition, uncoupling agents such as 2,4-dinitrophenol (DNP) [6] and carbonyl cyanide m-chlorophenyl hydrazone (CCCP) [7] are useful probes An uncoupler or uncoupling agent is a molecule that disrupts oxidative phosphorylation in prokaryotes and mitochondria or photophosphorylation in chloroplasts the Ehrlich carcinoma or Sarcoma 37 was relatively resistant to loss of adenosine tri- phosphate (ATP) produced by uncoupling agents, such as dinitrophenol Ultrastructural changes in mitochondrial morphology were observed in amoebae exposed to the uncoupling agents dinitrophenol (DNP), pentachlorophenol (PCP ) The Uncoupling Agent 2,4-Dinitrophenol Improves Mitochondrial Homeostasis following Striatal Quinolinic Acid Injections. Amit S. Korde; Patrick G. Sullivan Effects of heart isolation, voltage-sensitive dye, and electromechanical uncoupling agents on ventricular fibrillation. Hao Qin; ,; Matthew W. Kay; ,; Nipon However, if this were the case, oxidation by these enzymes should be relatively insensitive to agents that block substrate penetration across the inner membrane. 10 Dec 2017 Uncoupling agents are compounds which dissociate the synthesis of ATP from the transport of electrons through the cytochrome system.

GDP was also able to raise membrane potential and H 2 O 2 production of the mitochondria from nonparenchymal cells expressing UCP2, but was completely ineffective on mitochondria from hepatocytes deprived of UCP2. 2011-07-08 · 2,4-Dinitrophenol (DNP) is reported to cause rapid loss of weight, but unfortunately is associated with an unacceptably high rate of significant adverse effects. DNP is sold mostly over the internet under a number of different names as a weight loss/slimming aid.

Study of these latter substances, the uncoupling agents, reveals further subgrouping: 1) those agents which stimulate oxygen consumption and are insensitive to magnesium ion changes (e.g., dinitrophenol) and 2) agents which do not stimulate oxygen consumption while depressing phosphorylation and whose action is reversed by magnesium ions (e.g., the tetracyclines).
